Chapter 6 State legislators
Next to the president the next easily best known political figure in the country is the Governors, which tipiculay are 60 year old white males. But they do all not all fall under this category seeing that governor Jerry Brown is the oldest one who turned 78 on April 7th. He is not the only one who did not fall under the category of typical governor, we have had 6 women who have held that position along with that we have had one indian america, one pacific islander, and two latinos who have held that position. As a legislator most of the time they do not vote on raising taxes seeing that it may decrease political popularity. Unlike the president the governor is elected directly by the people and is considered the chief executive. But as governor you do not have to deal with all of the problems, they do not only get help from their own cabinet of department heads and most of the cities executive powers are given to a non elected official in a form of government known as council manager. Within his squad he has an assessor who examines all taxable property with the country. A sheriff which is a chief law enforcement officer, a district attorney which is a chief legal officer. Even having a coroner who tries to establish the cause of unusual or suspicious deaths. Along with this we also have a county clerk who has similar responsibilities to a secretary of state. Really depending on the how big the cities actually are which play a factor on how many different departments the county has.
