Daisy alcaraz State and Local Government Patricia Andrews March 26, 2019 Chapter 11 With each department and level of government there's a jurisdiction that goes along with it. Political jurisdiction such as cities, villages or towns incorporated under state law to provide governance to defined geographical areas. Which are more compact and more densely populated than counties, which are called municipalities. Counties are less compacted and less densely populated, also they are geographic subdivisions of state government. Counties have a form of county governance in which executive, legislative, and administrative powers are vested in elected commissioners, which is called county commissions system. Which does not work alone, the county also has a council-executive system which is a form of country governance in which legislative powers are vested in county commissioner and executive powers are vested in an independently elected executive. The other important system is...

Chapter 6 State legislators

Daisy alcaraz Patricia Andrews State and Local Government March 19, 2019 Chapter 6 State legislators   Next to the president the next easily best known political figure in the country is the Governors, which tipiculay are 60 year old white males. But they do all not all fall under this category seeing that governor Jerry Brown is the oldest one who turned 78 on April 7th. He is not the only one who did not fall under the category of typical governor, we have had 6 women who have held that position along with that we have had one indian america, one pacific islander, and two latinos who have held that position. As a legislator most of the time they do not vote on raising taxes seeing that it may decrease political popularity. Ch. 3

Daisy Alcaraz Patricia Andrews State and Local Government February 19, 2019 CH.3 Chapter three talked about the constitution. In this chapter we learned about a practice called judicial interpretation. Judicial interpretation is a practice in which judges modify the force of a constitutional provision by reinterpreting its meaning which is interesting because I always believed that the constitution was supposed to be followed to the t. In addition to not having to follow the constitution to the T, there is also a new judicial federalism. Which is the practice some state courts use where they will use the bill of rights in their state constitution to provide more protection to some rights which at times is not provided by the supreme court’s interpretation of the bill of rights which is in the constitution. These states constitutions have taken on more meaning because the state judges are looking to state constitutions for support rather than to use the constitution. This isn...

We learned that with each political party their will be a group of ideologies that they tend to follow. The ideology of the political party is the core beliefs about how the political system should run. The two most famous political parties are the republicans and the democrats. The republicans tend to be more conservative while democrats tend to be more liberal in comparison to the republicans. Throughout centuries we have gone back and forth between these two parties since no one party is perfect, developing this common practice called ticket splitting which is voting for one candidate of a different poli...

Daisy Alcaraz State and Local Government Patricia Andrews February 12 Blog Topic #4 Subsidiarity the principle of devolving decisions to the lowest practical level. Devolution by definition according to google means, “the transfer or delegation of power to a lower level, especially by central government to local or regional administration.”  both these terms mean basically the same thing devolution is just a bit more specific. Devolved systems and governance is a form of decentralization. Devolution is a more substantial and solid transfer of both political and economic powers from the national to lower levels of governance. It is also the process of transferring decision-making and implementation powers, functions, responsibilities and resources to elected local governance structures. When governments devolve functions, they give authority for decision making, in finance, and management to self sufficient units of local government with corporate status. Devolution usu...
